Survey on Home Delivery (2024) Food Delivery and Ingredient Delivery Edition

In September 2024, we conducted the "Home Delivery Survey (2024)" targeting 2,500 men and women aged 20-69 nationwide, asking about overall usage, awareness, and behavior related to "home delivery. This year's analysis focused on food delivery (cooking delivery) and ingredient delivery (food delivery), both of which have expanded due to the Corona disaster.

  • Food delivery usage in the last 3 months was 15%, down from 2 years ago.
    No change in use of food delivery for heavy or bulky items or when time is short.

Food Delivery Usage

The usage rate in the last 3 months was 15%, down 5 ppt from 2 years ago. By age group, the usage rate is relatively high at around 20% for those in their 20s and 30s. from 2 years ago, the usage rate has noticeably declined except for those in their 30s, with a 9 ppt drop for those in their 20s in particular. <Figure 1>

The most common usage scenarios were "Too much trouble/time to eat out" (54%) and "Too much trouble/time to cook/prepare meals by myself" (44%). <Figure 2>

Users' dissatisfaction was "Delivery fee is expensive/expensive," "Temperature control before delivery," and "Difficulty in ordering small quantities" at the 20% level. The "limited delivery area" dropped significantly to 13 pt, as the delivery area has expanded over the past two years. <Figure 3>

Intention to use food delivery in the future

Intention to use food delivery in the future was 29%, a 5-pt drop from two years ago. Among those who have used food delivery services in the past, a total of 60% expressed their intention to use food delivery services, including 17% who "would like to use" and 43% who "would like to use somewhat". <Figure 4>

Usage of food delivery services

The usage rate for the last three months was 15%, unchanged from two years ago, and the usage rate for those in their 30s was slightly higher. <Figure 5>

The top three reasons for using the service were "delivery of heavy or bulky items" (44%), "hassle/no time to shop" (40%), and "safety/security" (30%). <Figure 6>

Users' complaints included "difficulty ordering small quantities," "delivery fees are expensive/expensive," "temperature control before delivery," and "time taken from order to delivery. Temperature control before delivery" was up slightly from two years ago due to the long hot summer this year. <Figure 7>

Intention to use food delivery in the future

Intention to use food ingredient delivery services in the future was 24%, not significantly different from two years ago. Among those who have used food ingredient delivery services in the past, 29% "would like to use" and 43% "somewhat would like to use," for a total of 72% willingness to use food ingredient delivery services. <Figure 8>
